Columbus, Ohio - Nature and poetry enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) prepares to unveil the state's first Haiku Trail at Hueston Woods State Park this Sunday. This unique project is a result of a collaboration between the ODNR and Haiku North America, a continental poetry society currently hosting its 2023 conference in southwest Ohio.

Nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of Hueston Woods State Park, the Haiku Trail will feature a collection of twenty carefully selected haikus along the park's existing Sycamore Trail. Measuring half a mile in length and offering scenic views of Acton Lake, the Sycamore Trail was chosen as the perfect canvas to showcase these evocative and concise poems. The twenty haikus were meticulously chosen by Haiku North America from a pool of over 400 submissions, ensuring a diverse and captivating display of poetic talent.

The grand opening of the Haiku Trail will take place on Sunday, July 2, at 3:00 PM. The event will commence with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the official inauguration of this immersive experience. Attendees will then have the opportunity to embark on an optional 0.5-mile walking tour along the trail, fully immersing themselves in the harmonious blend of nature and art. It is important to note that the entire event will be held outdoors, so participants are advised to prepare accordingly and dress for the prevailing weather conditions.

For those planning to attend, Hueston Woods State Park's address at 5201 Lodge Road in College Corner, OH 45003 can be used for GPS navigation. Once at the address, visitors are encouraged to follow the red event signs directing them to the Haiku Trail. Convenient parking is available across the street from the trail, near the Sycamore picnic area and Cedar Falls trailhead.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources strives to maintain a delicate balance between the responsible utilization and protection of our state's precious natural resources, ensuring their preservation for the benefit and enjoyment of all.
