Dave Earnst, one of the owners of Hamilton's Urban Backyard, says HUB is preparing for summer food truck events to support local businesses. Located in a historic building at 501 Main Street on Hamilton's west side, Earnst says Hamilton is a thriving community and that things are continuing to improve for local business owners.

"This is a 167 year old building, it was saved by the architectural design and review board on multiple occasions. My wife Emily came up with the concept for a backyard, this property with the empty lots next door was perfect for this. I grew up in Hamilton and all of my kids graduated from Badin. There's been expansion of businesses along the Main Street business district as things have progressed westward. The city is trying to address parking with 2 hour slots and meters like they've introduced on the east side of town."

HUB's excitement to support other local businesses is clear, with all of their products having a local connection to Southern Ohio. When renovating the building, Earnst used local contractors to ensure that the community was included in all steps of opening the business. Renovations unearthed dozens of artifacts with ties to the Rossville neighborhood that occupies the section of Main Street that HUB where HUB is located, these artifacts are proudly displayed inside of HUB's taproom.and honors the history of 501 Main Street. All of HUB's beers, wines, and liquors are sourced locally and are eligible for Hamilton's DORA, or downtown outdoor refreshment area, a movement aiming to allow adult beverages to be consumed while visitors shop and explore.

"Ultimately what we're trying to do with DORA is not just have people walk around with an open container but to have them frequent the businesses that have decided to set up shop around Main Street. This whole thing is about being a family oriented business and being a part of the community. On our website HUBHamilton.com we have a music and event page. Mama Bear Mac and Rock and Rolls are our seasonal tenants, as the weather is better more consistently we'll probably have a third and fourth one on Fridays and Saturdays. We're constantly looking for food truck partners to have here."

Hamilton's Urban Backyard opens at 11 am Tuesday through Saturday and opens at 12 pm on Sunday's, they are closed every Monday.
