A New Wave of Entrepreneurs
Local entrepreneurs under 25 are transforming Butler County with their passion and drive towards becoming business owners. Two young men took their passion for clothing and shoes and made their business dreams a reality.
21 year old Sebastian Day started Bam's Kicks, a retailer located at 690 Nilles Road in Fairfield. Bam's Kicks buys, sells, and trades new and used shoes and clothes, including Yeezy, Jordan, Nike, and Supreme brands. The store is open Monday through Saturday from noon until 7pm.
"I could write a book on the barriers and unexpected things I had to overcome."
Sebastian's success has not come without hardships, he says, "I could write a book on the barriers and unexpected things I had to overcome. Workers, competition, store front, theft, fake sneakers. There is so much more than just renting a space and selling shoes. I’m still learning as I go. It kills me when people call me lucky, because this is nothing but hard work. I started with what I had in my closet, 12 pairs of shoes and some shirts, and $3000 I had gotten from my grandma passing away. I’ve worked 8-12 hours everyday to work up to what I have now. I have over 800 shoes in store."
Birdbrain Apparel, located at 7539 Bales St at Liberty Center Mall, was started locally in 2016 when 16 year old Jason Vinson started a clothing line with the support of family and friends. Birdbrain Apparel has a variety of products fro shorts to hoodies, all with original designs. Birdbrain's mission statement reflects the ambition of the newest generation of business owners, "Birdbrain is a testament to beating the odds and turning dreams into reality through inspired action." Birdbrain is open at noon daily or browse their section at shopbirdbrain.com.
The next generation of Butler County residents are proving to have what it takes to transform our communities into becoming self sustaining leaders for the rest of the nation. Building communities starts with supporting local businesses and empowering the young people.
