When you want a great donut, cake, cookie or pastry, sometimes the best recommendation comes from the people who live here.

A recent discussion in the Hamilton Ohio News and Events Facebook group asked a simple question:

“What’s that one bakery around here you always end up recommending to people?”

The responses came quickly, with residents naming longtime favorites and some newer discoveries throughout Hamilton, Fairfield, Middletown, Trenton and surrounding Butler County communities.

Here’s a Q&A look at what local residents recommended.

Q: Which bakery received the most recommendations?

Kelly’s Bakery was the clear standout in this discussion.

Multiple people simply answered “Kelly’s,” while others specifically mentioned the bakery for donuts.

Comments included:

  • “Kelly’s bakery for sure.”

  • “For donuts, Kelly’s hands down.”

  • “Kelly’s bakery on Main Street in Hamilton.”

  • “Kelly’s” was also repeatedly mentioned alongside other local favorites.

Based strictly on the comments in this discussion, Kelly’s received more individual recommendations than any other bakery.

Q: What other Hamilton-area bakeries received multiple mentions?

Several local businesses showed strong support.

Ross Bakery was repeatedly recommended, particularly for donuts. Several commenters simply responded “Ross Bakery,” while another recommended “Ross Bakery or Kelly’s Bakery for donuts.”

Luke’s Custom Cakes also generated enthusiastic recommendations. One resident said Luke’s “knocks it out of the park,” while another described it as “phenomenal.” Luke’s was specifically mentioned for cakes and cookies.

Chubby Bunny Bakery received several recommendations as well. Commenters highlighted its allergen-friendly baked goods, and one resident specifically praised its pumpkin bread.

Another Mental Bakedown was another name that appeared multiple times, with residents describing it as a favorite and praising what they had tried.

Q: What about donuts?

Donuts produced plenty of opinions.

In addition to Kelly’s and Ross Bakery, residents mentioned:

The Donut Spot in Fairfield — Several people recommended The Donut Spot, including one commenter who listed it as a favorite along with Kelly’s.

Martin’s Donuts in Trenton — Recommended by a commenter specifically looking beyond Hamilton.

Jupiter Coffee & Donuts — One resident recommended it and also praised the atmosphere, calling it “such a cool vibe.”

Daylight Donuts on Tylersville Road — Another recommendation from the discussion.

Hurts Donuts — Also received a mention.

Q: What about cakes and specialty baked goods?

Luke’s Custom Cakes received some of the strongest comments in this category.

One commenter specifically recommended Luke’s for cakes and cookies, while others praised the bakery more generally.

Sweet Crumbs Bakery was recommended for cookies and cake flights.

Chubby Bunny Bakery stood out for a different reason. Residents specifically mentioned its allergen-friendly offerings, making it one of the more distinctive recommendations in the conversation.

Q: Were any Middletown bakeries recommended?

Yes.

Central Pastry Shop in Middletown was mentioned more than once. One commenter included Central Pastry among several favorites, while another specifically recommended “Central pastries in Middletown.”

Q: Were there recommendations outside Hamilton and Middletown?

Absolutely.

The discussion stretched across Butler County and nearby communities.

Residents mentioned:

  • The Donut Spot in Fairfield

  • Martin’s Donuts in Trenton

  • Mimi’s Little Kitchen at Loder’s Plaza in Millville

  • Daylight Donuts on Tylersville Road

  • Jungle Jim’s

  • Meijer

One commenter also mentioned a bakery near the Lane Library on Third Street, although the commenter was unsure of the correct spelling of its name.

Q: So, what are the local favorites?

Judging only by the responses to this particular Facebook discussion, a few names clearly generated the most enthusiasm:

Kelly’s Bakery — The strongest overall response, particularly for donuts.

Ross Bakery — Another frequently mentioned donut favorite.

Luke’s Custom Cakes — Strong recommendations for cakes, cookies and baked goods.

Chubby Bunny Bakery — Multiple recommendations, including praise for allergen-friendly options.

Another Mental Bakedown — Several enthusiastic recommendations.

The Donut Spot — A popular Fairfield choice.

Central Pastry Shop — A longtime Middletown-area favorite among commenters.

Of course, this wasn't a scientific poll. It was something arguably more fun: local people sharing the places they personally recommend.
